Reggae music is a genre which was formed in jamaica during the 1960s and developed from ska and rocksteady.
Reggaes rhythmical style was more syncopated and slower than that of its influences and it placed more emphasis on the off-beat rhythm guitar chord chops which were often found in ska music.
Reggaes lyrical content maintained much of its focus on love as like with the lyrics of rocksteady, but during the 1970s some recordings began to focus on more social and religious themes which coincided with the rise of the rastafarian movement.
