Natives EP is a predominantly a tribal themed EP, the title track explores a specific scene in Peter Jackson’s King Kong where the protagonists are confronted by the Native indigenous people on the island, which doesn’t go too well for them…
I explore themes such as fierce resistance and defiance to modernism, imperialism and colonialism. This theme is then echoed through Bastarnae, the Bastarnae were a tribe from the Dobruja region of modern day Bulgaria. As such I felt it fitting to use vocal samples from the Bulgarian national women choir. The Bastarnae were notoriously known to resist Roman expansionism in the region.
